Singer CE250 Futura review
By Julie Johnson  (Canterbury Kent)  posted at 7 October 2009
I ordered my machine and had to wait a few weeks as it was out of stock. However, I was informed it was in stock at 3pm and it was delivered at 9.15 the following morning! I am totally happy with everything about it, it sews beautifully and embroiders like a dream. The only thing I was surprised about was that it did not have a cover and also it does not mention it includes a zipper foot so I ordered one, only to find that it does! apart from that I am really really happy with my purchase and would certainly order from this company again.

I am still amazed at what my fantastic machine can do, and to scan a childs picture in and turn it in to a piece that can be put in to a quilt or as I have done, a child won a competition to design a golf logo for our school and I just made it on the machine and put it on to a tee shirt and gave it to the child (6 year old) as present , he face alone was payment enough Thank You X millions. June
Its amazing !!!!

I have wanted a machine like this for many years but the price was out of my range and then when I passed an a very hard computer exam mu=y hubby ddecided that I should go mad and order it, when i found out how the price had come down and there was a price promise on the site , I not only ordered the machine but the software packages as well, the machine is fun easyto use and has endless uses in my job as a teaching assistant in a welsh medium school, so it is also a teaching aid he he and I love the lessons,
Thank you for a wondeful machine and also the ability for me to buy it at such a wonderful price. June

I have the futura ce200 and I am very happy with both the sewing and the embroidery. I had to buy editing software, mind you, as I want to be able to merge more than one design at a time and have the ability to split large designs.
For the price I was rather surprised to find that it didn't come with the basic feet. I think Singer should offer at least the zipper foot as well.
To sum up, I really enjoy working on this machine and I won't be changing it for a long time to come.

I am very happy with my machine. I dreamt about an embroidery machine since a long time and wasn't able to buy it because it's very expensive in France. But since I saw the price on the website, I was delighted. It's half the price of here !!!
I didn't have the time to use the embroidery part of the machine but the sewing is great!
Very good purchase so far.

I really love the quality and simplicity of use that this machine offers. I have one question, Is there a repositionable hoop available for this machine? I would love to embroider borders without changing hoops so much. I would appreciate any information on this question.
Thank you

I simply love this machine. both for ordinary sewing and embroidery. I am a quilter and usually have three sewing machines, but since buying this I have sold the other three. I have found the performance of the machine excellent, and have had no real problems with the software itself just a few gripes with the manual. Well worth the money.

As others before I hade problems installing Autopunch - the basic software installed OK - and no help in the manual or on the support pages. Finally after searching the internet for two days I found a page in which the problem was descibed. It was a Windows update that made the problem. It was removed and the machine works well.
Question: why could this not be found on singer website??

I had a terrible problem with the installation of the Futura software having bought it a month ago. The problem as it turns out is nothing to do with Singer but Microsoft who sent out an updagte to XP which conflicted with the software. There is a simple solution in deleting this update and now my machine and its software functions marvellously. I adore my new machine and am just a little worried that my work and hosue will fall into disrepair as I spend hours having fun designing and experimenting. thanks especially to the guys at Singer for their help and patience in discovering what the cause of our problem was and finding a solution.

I bought my Futura in April and love it! I agree there are some things that could be improved but for the price I think it works great.

I have a question though- hopefully someone can help me. I'd like to combine designs on one file but I can't figure out how to do it. For example, I purchased some applique alphabets online but can only embroider one letter at a time. I'd like to be able to embroider a whole word at once. I heard I could buy software to achieve this but it's around $100 and don't want to spend that if it's something already included in the software. Any suggestions?

As for Kim's question regarding the zipper foot...you can simply purchase one at your local sewing store. Just tell them the model. You can either get one that just pops on and off the existing sewing shank or buy one with a different shank that you would screw on and off like the embroidery foot(which would be a pain to take on and off).

I absoulutly love this machine, i recieved the futura CE-200 as a belated birthday/christmas present. It was fairly simple to use and my husband(a computer expert)sorts all the software issues out and regularly downloads new designs for me to try out, even my 4 yr old loves to sit and watch it work.
Admittedly i havent the patience to sort the designs out thats my husbands job as he knows pc's better then me, if anyone needs help e-mail us and we'll see if we can help taralouisehomer@yahoo.com

I have recently been playing with the cross stitch part and christmas designs are lokking fabulous, plus the photo section is great i have done pictures of friends children are anniversary gifts. Now i have a steady strem of orders for cards and pictures. great little business starter.

I grew up sewing on a Singer (heavy metal frame and all!) back in the 70s, so I am probably brnad loyal for this reason. The only problem is I am not a satisfied customer with the last machines I've purchased from them! However, for the MONEY!!< it seems this Futura CE-200 is worth it even though I am somewhat disappointed in overall stitch quality. I bought this machine because the cost is low for an embroidery machine and I am comfortable using software. But, I have trouble with the small hoop! I am having to work harder at 'getting it all going' and this frustrates me! I keep thinking that one day I will be impressed, but so far, I'm not! I am wishing I had saved my money to buy an Husqvarna or something....oh well!

I have had quite a few sewing machines. This one tops them all! I can't believe how much functionality this machine has. I have to wear name tags where I work and now I have my name on all my uniforms, so I can never forget my name tag again. The possibilities with this Futura machine are endless. I find that if you read everything carefully then things tend to fall into place, and if you are computer literate at all things are generally easy to figure out.

I love this machine. I received it for Christmas. I previously owned a Brother PE150. I needed a larger design field. Unfortunately, I cannot use the thousands of designs I downloaded using the Amazing Box. What am I doing wrong? For the money, this machine is a great value.

I received this machine for Christmas. It is wonderful. I previously owned a Brother PE150. I basically just wanted a larger embroidery field. The only problem is that I haven't been able to download designs from internet sites to floppy disk for this machine. I have thousands of designs that I used with the Amazing Box for my brother machine. They are now useless. Could someone please advise?

I HAVE BEEN A SINGER OWNER SINCE 1963 AND WHEN I PURCHASED THIS FUTURA I INTENDED TO ADD EMBROIDERY AND QUILTING TO MY ACHEIVMENTS. BUT THERE IS NO ZIPPERFOOT FOR THIS MACHINE WHICH MEANS I WOULD HAVE TO KEEP AN OLDER MODEL TO DO ANY ZIPPER INSTALLATIONS. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A ZIPPERFOOT ATTACHMENT FOR THIS MACHINE. OTHER THAN THAT I LOVE THE MACHINE. EXCEPT I KEEP GETTING THE CODE 88 (WHICH IS NOT COVERED IN THE MANUAL)AND HAVE TO SHUT OFF THE MACHINE DURING SEWING FROM TIME TO TIME,

I have just received my new Singer futura ce200 and it is superb, it stitches out embroidery designs very well and bigger than my Brother pe150, the included software didnt load on the first atempt, however now it works as it should, I can create my own machine embroider and work untill after midnight again. The button holes and normal sewing stitches function well. Overall it is very good value for the money.

Well I think this machine is fantastic and who cares if there is spelling and grammer mistakes in the manual (Amanda's isnt too brilliant either) it's so simple you dont need to read the manual once you get going. I found it really easy to create my own designs and the quality is excellant. You dont need the machine on while you create the design, you can create ot in another program the open the file up in autopunch, simple.

After much internet investigation decided upon the CE200 (mainly because old old machine (Melodie 20) is singer and loved it. I was very eager to get going but the beep beep beep is driving me up the wall (internal computer) The embroidery unit works brillant with the included designs but have spent hours trying to get it to embroider pictures that I have drawn using the autopunch (simple pictures as I am no artist). The stitching jumps from left to right with no logic leaving me with lots of unnecessary threads to cut off.
Ordinary sewing works fine but on setting width and lenght of the satin stitch needs always to be tested. The widest differs from time to time in which case the machine needs to be switched on and off.
I chose the machine because I love my PC and had great hope for joining it to a sewing machine but have to wonder for the money is there better out there?

Excellent value for money. Very easy to set up and use in sewing mode. Wide range of different stitches that will take me a while to get to investigate properly. Good build quality. For the basic sewing mode the Star rating should be a 5, but it came down to a 4 because of some gripes with the software. I work in IT, so picking up a new piece of software fo rme is very easy. However this means that I wanted to skip over the introductory 'how to use Windows' bits and get straight into the detail, but the online manual wasn't organised in a manner that made that easy. The are quite a few spealling and grammar mistakes in the mnaual, and there are also a lot of spelling mistakes in the software. This can't be simply a mistake in translation since some words (e.g. transmission) are correct in some places but not in others. However the major gripe is that the sewing machine has to be turned on and connected before the software will run. This is not very environmentally friendly, since it means that a lot of people will leave the machine on while spending several hours creating their design. I have since discovered that you can turn the machine off as soon as it has started, but there is no mention of that in the manual.
