It's the new Futura. It has a lovely shape and is ready to sew regular stitching as well as embroidery in a hoop. In fact two hoops are included! The XL400 by Singer has a host of user friendly features. Even threading is simple; it uses a brand new system called SwiftSmart threading which allows one handed threading...no up-down and around like the regular way to thread a sewing machine.
Many more features are used to help make sewing and embroidering fun...quick and easy for everyone.
The Futura XL400 has two main goals, one to be a good sewing machine with computerised time saving functions (most of which I will list later) also the other goal is to be a decent embroidery machine, which it excels at!
On top of that, with the Singer XL400, you will receive the new version 4 Futura software. Once loaded on to a Windows PC it allows all kinds of editing functions for embroidery designs. Create you own motifs by adding lettering. Combine, flip, rotate, resize, copy/paste designs. Designs can be sew up to nearly 10" (25 cm) in size using the included hoop.
When the embroidery unit is removed and the machine is in regular sewing mode, you can make use of the sleeve arm. It comes with a extension bed so large items can be sewn two handy accessory storage compartments. The sewing bed to the right of the needle is larger than most at over 8" (21 cm). Buttonholes are sewn in one-step and will be the correct size for each button.
Other Sewing Features:
30 stitches including stretch, quilting and decorative stitches.
6 StayBright LED lights
Wide 7mm decorative stitches
Extra high foot lifter
Max speed slide controller

Birkenhead Review by ElaineM
What a fantastic machine. It has really rekindled my love of sewing. It is very easy to use and so far I have had no problems at all with it. I have sewn a variety of projects with it including several quilted items and am pleased with all the results. There is plenty of room under the arm of the machine for manoeuvring a small quilt (I haven't yet tried with a large one but I think it will be fine). It is the first embroidery machine that I've had and I am only just starting to learn how to create embroideries but even my first attempts were good enough to use. The only thing that potential purchasers should be aware of is that, although it is not particularly heavy, this is a big machine and with the embroidery unit fitted it is very big. It would probably not be suitable for someone with limited sewing space. Also it does not come with a dust cover (easily made in half an hour on the machine!) I am planning to reorganise and create a dedicated sewing space large enough to keep my lovely Futura always ready to sew! (Posted on 10/2/2014)
Essex Review by Sally
I purchased this machine with the intention of using it for the embroidery, as I already have a sewing machine. Only received this on Tuesday but very happy with machine so far. Able to look through tutorial which is easy and takes you through the various functions and I am really pleased with the embroidery results. Did have a problem but this was soon resolved by using the helpline, where I was able to speak to someone direct and not have to go through an electronic switchboard. Starting out on embroidery? Then this machine is for you. (Posted on 2/8/2013)
Thatcham, Berkshire Review by Ken
This is an excellent machine. Modern sleek styling with real quality. Easy to use, good clear instruction book. really good value for money, large size of embroidery hoop very useful. Threads easy to load. Ordered one day delivered next, packaging brilliant. We all want a good deal with a good product and service. The machine has turned out to be far better than I expected. Great product, great service, would certainly buy from again. (Posted on 11/15/2012)

West Sussex Review by Rosie Rabbit
I've never had an embroidery machine before and I researched a lot of them via the net and Youtube before deciding on the Futura and I'm very happy with my choice. It's easy to set up and within an hour I was sewing away on my first design. I like the fact that the screen is actually on my laptop and that I don't have to cope with peering at tiny one on the machine. The software is fairly intuitive and you can create your own unique design by manipulating and combining images.
Also the Futura can read designs in other sewing machine formats ie the jef format produced by Janome.
The threading of the machine has also been simplified - just one straight down channel for the thread.
I really like this machine and I think for an entry level embroidery machine it's unbeatable in value and performance. (Posted on 4/17/2012)
