Multi-Purpose Dye Instructions
·
Suitable fabrics: cotton, linen, viscose, wool, silk, nylon and Lycra®
(elastane) .
· NOT for pure synthetics (except nylon),
polyester/wool mixtures, or
fabrics with special finishes.
· Multi-Purpose Dye is not colourfast so garments
should always be washed
separately.
· One tin is sufficient for up to 250g/8 oz dry
weight fabric.
You
will need:
·
30g / 1oz of salt
·
Rubber gloves
·
A saucepan
Instructions:
1. Weigh dry fabric. Wash fabric thoroughly even if
new and leave damp.
2. Fill saucepan or similar container with enough hot
water to cover
article and allow easy movement during dyeing.
3. Wearing rubber gloves, dissolve dye in
500ml/1 pint of boiling
water, stir well.
4. Add solution to vessel with 30g/1oz salt, stirring
well.
5. Put in clean, damp article and raise temperature
to simmer, then stir
constantly for 20 minutes to ensure even
dyeing.
6. Rinse article until water run clear. Results are
not colour fast, so dyed
garments should be turned inside out and washed
separately.
7. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight.
Special Instructions for Wool:
Follow steps for 1 to 4 above.
5. Put in clean, damp, unfolded article. Bring slowly
to a simmer and
reduce heat at once. Stir gently for 10
minutes.
6. Remove article from dye and allow to cool before
rinsing in lukewarm
water, until water runs clear.
7. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight.

Hand Dye Instructions
·
Suitable fabrics: cotton, linen, viscose, wool, silk and
polyester/cotton
mixes.
· A lighter shade is achieved on polyester/cotton
mixes because polyester
and other pure synthetics DO NOT pick up dye.
· Lighter results also on wool and silk.
·
1 pack is suitable for up to 250 g / 8 oz dry weight fabric.
You will need:
·
250g / 8oz of salt (the quantity
of water and salt must be
increased proportionately with the number of packs
used)
·
Rubber gloves
·
Flat bottomed bowl
Instructions:
1. Weigh dry fabric. Wash fabric thoroughly even if
new to remove stains or
dressings which may not be visible to the eye
and leave damp.
2. Wearing rubber gloves, dissolve dye in 1 litre/2
pints of warm water
stirring thoroughly.
3. Put 6 litres/12 pints hottest tap water into
a flat bottomed bowl, or
stainless steel sink (please note we do not
recommend a bath and dye
may stain some plastic containers).
4. Add 250g/8oz of salt, stir well, then add dye
solution.
5. Put unfolded damp fabric into bowl, dye for one
hour. Agitate continually
for first 15 minutes by squeezing the dye
through the fabric and lifting out
of the solution. Stir regularly for another 45
minutes, keeping fabric
submerged.
6. Rinse in cold water until water runs clear, then
wash separately in hot
water using normal washing detergent. For wool
and silk, rinse in
lukewarm water.
7. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight.
8. Wash garment separately for first few washes to
remove excess dye.

There has never been a quicker, easier solution than using Dylon
Machine Dye. Pop the dye with some salt into the washing
machine, throw in the item you want to colour, switch your machine on
and hey presto! It's like new again.
It really is as easy as washing your clothes. The best thing is, the
colours are permanent and won't affect subsequent washes. Let your
imagination run wild. You could be the best-dressed kid on the block. |
